DIVING INFORMATION
There are 6 groups of dives in diving.
1. Forward
2. Backward
3. Reverse
4. Inward
5. Twisting
6. Armstand
There are 5 different heights in diving.
1. 1mtr springboard
2. 3mtr springboard
3. 5mtr platform
4. 7.5 mtr platform
5. 10 mtr platform
*Diving events can be from either the springboard or platform, depending on the
competition.
*Individual events are where the diver competes a list of different dives according to
age and level of competition.
*Synchronised events are where two divers compete dives together at the same time.
*The goal in diving is to make the dive as eye pleasing as possible, while mastering
difficult actions in the air, and finishing with minimum amount of splash.
*The earliest major diving competition took place in 1871 off the London Bridge.
*Men's diving became a part of the Olympic Games in 1904.
*Women's diving was added in 1912.
*Synchronised diving became an Olympic event in 2000.
*The wheel at the side of a diving board is called the fulcrum, and is used to make the diving board
harder or bouncier, depending on the location at the time of diving.
*Barbara McAulay (Donnet) , the winner of the platform diving event at the 1954 Commonwealth Games
in Vancouver,Canada is the mother and coach of Jenny Donnet, the winner of the springboard event in
the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games.
*Jenny Donnet was the flag bearer for Australia at the Opening Ceremony of the 1992 Barcelona
Olympics, and is the third Australian woman to have this honour.
*Don Wagstaff coached by Tom Donnet won thirty Australian titles from 1966- 1978, and won 4 gold
medals at the Commonwealth Games.
*Matthews Helm's bronze medal for the mens's platform event at the 9th World Championships in 2001
was the first individual medal won by an Australian male in the diving history of the event.
*Barbi Donnet won 3 gold medals at the World Masters Games in Melbourne in 2002, and won over 50
medals in diving events between 1970 and 1982.
*Irene Donnet won the gold medal in the womens 3mtr event at the 1938 Commonwealth Games.

*There is a joining /insurance fee of $108.50 per diver- due July each year
*Pro rata insurance and club fees are $26 per term block
*Classes run at Kawana and Chandler right throughout the year (see calendar)
*Holiday clinics are run at Chandler and Kawana
*Novice competitions introduce the beginner to competitive diving and are held generally
once a month.
